BEASTS & Machines

Murat Çolak’s Swan is an audio-visual experience that explores the interplay between man-made machines and wild creatures (human or otherwise) in the past, present, and possible future.  It combines an amplified ensemble with Turkish influences ranging from an electronic dance music subculture to ritualistic oral traditions to found sounds from the composer's personal history; Çolak's sound world is intermittently coupled with video excerpts designed by Dan Tramte. Huck Hodge’s breathtaking Apophenia refers to a “human tendency to perceive meaningful patterns” in random phenomena. Additional solo and chamber works consider efforts to tame the untamable and rationalize the unreasonable.
