Mark Buchner
Chicago-based double bassist Mark Buchner is an active performer of both new music and the orchestral repertoire. He currently holds the position of Principal Bass of the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra in addition to being a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and maintaining a substitute position with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, performing with them in November 2010 under Pierre Boulez. Originally from Southern California, Mark received Bachelors of Music degrees in performance and music education from Chapman University. There he had the opportunity to perform many new works by composers such as Kurtág, Donatoni, Xenakis, Frank Proto, and Eugene Kurtz in recital, as well as performing countless new works in the university's new music ensemble.
Mark moved to Chicago in 2010 to study with Peter Lloyd at Northwestern University, where he will be receiving a Masters in Music degree in June 2011. There he quickly joined the University's contemporary music ensemble to continue his new music training, and started playing with Ensemble Dal Niente shortly after that, participating in Donatoni's "Hot" in fall 2010.
