Dal Niente plays new works by Pierce Gradone and Tim Page, as well as Center for Contemporary Composition Inaugural Fellow Aaron Helgeson. Gradone’s concerto for trombone and chamber ensemble, The Dark Electric, is “inspired by Cormac McCarthy’s depictions of the American Southwest.” Tim Page's work for chamber orchestra rivets the layers of its polyaesthetic texture together with a visceral rhythmic drive. And for his piece, Aaron Helgeson “is hard at work gathering analog folk recordings, collaging them using digital technology, and re-transcribing them by hand for acoustic instruments.”
