HEARING VOICES

Grammy-nominated soprano Tony Arnold joined ensemble dal niente conducted by Nicholas DeMaison to perform Salvatorre Sciarrino's Infinito Nero and soprano Linden Christ joins ensemble dal niente conducted by Francesco Milioto to premiere OPENING by Kirsten Broberg.  The musicians included Constance Schoepflin (flute), Alejandro Acierto (clarinet), Andy Nogal (oboe), Austin Wulliman (violin), Ammie Brod (viola), Isabel Castellvi (cello), Peter Martin (percussion), Sergiy Komirenko (piano), and Janelle Jansen (harp).

Sopranos Majel Connery and Emily Lyday joined ensemble dal niente conducted by Michael McBride to premire Nicholas DeMaison's new chamber opera Ursularia.  The musicians will include Anita Chandavarkar (flute), Alejandro Acierto (clarinet), Jonathon Kirk (trombone), Peter Martin (percussion), Ammie Brod (viola), Isabel Castellvi (cello), Rob Clearfield (accordian) and Nicholas DeMaison (electronics) on the Opera Cabal Multimedia and Chamber Opera Festival.

dal niente presented American premiere of Thomas Smetryn's work: La Creation d'un Monde and Heleen Van Haegenborgh's work, Brisés as well as dal Profondo by Ada Gentile performed by Masahito Sugihara (baritone saxophone), violin by Robert Wannemaker performed by Ari Streisfeld (violin), opening by Kirsten Broberg for solo cello performed by Isabel Castellvi (cello), Algos by Brent Wetters (piano) and the premiere of Hobart Smith II for ensemble by Jonathon Kirk.

THE CONTEMPORARY CLARINET: GARETH DAVIS LIVE!

dal niente proudly presented young, virtuosic Amsterdam-based clarinetist Gareth Davis performing an arresting array of contemporary works by Nicola Sani, Giacinto Scelsi, Olga Neuwirth, Jonathan Harvey, Salvatore Sciarrino, Martin Stig Andersen and Eric Dolphy for clarinet and clarinet + electronics.

dal niente featured violin and cello duo Wild and Wulliman, Chris Wild (cello) and Austin Wulliman (violin), performing Duo by Giacinto Scelsi, hunem iduhey by Iannis Xenakis, and solo works Inside Out for violin by Aaron Einbond and Elemental by Eliza Brown for cello written expressly for them.  Also on the program are the electro-acoustic work Superacutae by Lee Weisert and ...Until... by Clarence Barlowe performed by Joann Cho (piano).  ensemble dal niente topped off the program with the Chicago premiere of Ethers for solo flute and chamber ensemble conducted by Michael McBride and performed by Anita Chandavarkar (flute), Anne Donaldson (violin), Ammie Brod (viola), Ashley Garritson (cello), Doug Johnson (bass), Jonathon Kirk (trombone) and Peter Martin (percussion).  This concert is generously supported by Ossia Fine Arts Space, a new alternative space for new music and art in the historic Fine Arts Building on Michigan Avenue in Chicago.

presented a profile concert in rememberance of composer György Ligeti his first birthday after his passing on June 12, 2006.  Performers included soloist Amy Dissanayake (piano), Isabel Castellvi (cello), Constance Schoepflin (flute), Alejandro Acierto (clarinet), Nora Lewis (oboe), Matt Oliphant (horn), Kirstin Haaheim (bassoon), Austin Wulliman (violin), Isabel Castellivi (cello) and Sergiy Komirenko (piano).
