Four new commissions.

25 ground-breaking composers.

Twenty-three virtuosic musicians.

One incredible season.

This season, Dal Niente invites you to think about sound. We make sounds with our mouths, with our hands, with our blood vessels, with our guts. Animals make sounds, so do trees and rocks and sand. Does light make sound? There are singing sounds, instrumental sounds, the sounds of applause; there are accidental sounds, intentional sounds, and the in-between kind; there's the barely-heard sound of electronics while you sleep. Get in on these sounds with us.  We present new works by Erin Gee, Ted Hearne, Viola Yip, and Anthony Cheung; we perform music that is resplendent, zany, eerie, delightful, and difficult (sometimes all at the same time); we visit Mexico, Florida, California, Michigan; we stay in Chicago; we collaborate with the L.A. Philharmonic; we improvise; we bow guitars and pluck pianos and revisit some of our favorite composers including George Lewis, Marcos Balter, Eliza Brown, and George Crumb. In short: Sound? Yes.

Commissioning new work from living composers offers our audience a direct line into the present tense of the composer’s mind.
