Oboist Andy Nogal takes a star turn with a program of duo music for oboe and piano that showcases the expressive and technical potential of the oboe as a tool for experimenting with sound and harmony. The program introduces three new works written expressly for and in consultation with Andy, including Pierce's Gradone’s On a Blue Burst of Lake, a multi-movement work for oboe and piano; Cassie Wieland’s 4:45, which explores the feeling of loneliness that comes at 4:45 am in the big city when one feels like the only person on the planet; and a new work by John Liberatore, professor of composition at Notre Dame. The program also includes"Diaphonic Suite #1" for oboe solo by trailblazing American modernist Ruth Crawford Seeger. Pianist Daniel Pesca, who has been Nogal’s duo partner since 2010, guest stars.
